MIDLOTHIAN — Midlothian ISD has named Ashley Stewart, Ed.D., as the new assistant superintendent for school leadership, planning and innovation. The School Board approved the recommendation at a special called meeting held July 8.

"Dr. Stewart brings a wide range of experience, knowledge and skills to MISD, making her an excellent selection for this position. There is no doubt in my mind that she will be a tremendous asset to the District," Midlothian ISD Superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter said.

"I have been fortunate to observe her leadership skills for the past three years in Graham ISD. With her addition to an already excellent team, I am confident that we will continue to move forward and maintain the excellent reputation of MISD."

Stewart began her educational career in Wylie ISD where she taught sixth grade social studies and language arts and served on the Superintendent's Advisory Board and Site-based Academic Advisory Board.

She later became an elementary assistant principal and principal in Springtown ISD. Her leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment landed her a job as a curriculum consultant for Region 14 Education Service Center in Abilene.

In 2007, Stewart served as assistant superintendent in San Saba ISD, and in 2010 she became the assistant superintendent for curriculum, accountability and special populations in Graham ISD.

Stewart graduated from McMurry University in Abilene, TX with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She later received both a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University. She has also obtained a superintendent certification.

In her twenty-two years as a professional educator, she has served in many leadership capacities on local and state level advisory boards and professional organizations which has broadened her spectrum of school operations, transformation in curriculum and instruction, maximizing personnel and student engagement.

She is happily married to her husband, Harper, who was named principal at T.E. Baxter Elementary.
