Woman in custody after assaulting Sheriff’s Deputy

Nia Chene Hazeur, 24, of McKinney was taken into custody on charges of assault on a public servant and resisting arrest after attacking a Sheriff's Deputy Thursday, April 30.

ELLIS COUNTY — On Thursday, April 30, an Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was dispatched to a location at St. Paul Road at U.S. Highway 287 in Mansfield in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch advised that witnesses had reported a woman doing "donuts: in a 2007 Toyota Corolla.

Upon arrival, the Deputy spoke with the witnesses, who said the woman had forced a gate open with her vehicle. The Deputy observed the woman sitting in the back seat of her car and spoke with her before placing her in his patrol unit. The Deputy then made contact with a property representative, who arrived on scene and declined to prosecute.

After getting the woman out of his patrol unit, the Deputy spoke with her again and asked for her vehicle insurance, at which point she became agitated and began to walk away. The Deputy went to detain her and the woman began striking and scratching him in the face with her hands. A struggle ensued; however, the Deputy was able to take her into custody.

Backup arrived and the woman, identified as Nia Chene Hazeur, 24, of McKinney, was transported to Wayne McCollum Detention Center, where she was booked in on charges of assault on a public servant and resisting arrest. Bonds were set at $50,000 and $5,000, respectively.

The Deputy was treated for his injuries and has since returned to work. Hazeur was still in custody Monday evening.

UPDATE June 8, 2015: Ellis County Citizen received confirmation from the Ellis County Sheriff's Office that charges were dropped against Nia Chene Hazeur.
