ELLIS COUNTY — Red Oak Independent School District and Ferris Independent School District announced they will apply for waivers from the state to make up for Thursday's school closures caused by hazardous road conditions.Red Oak ISD made its announcement on Thursday and Ferris ISD followed suit on Friday."Ferris ISD will request a 'Missed Instructional Day Waiver' from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the third day missed because of hazardous road conditions," Ferris ISD stated in a release.According to the release, the waiver request must be approved by the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees prior to submitting the request to the TEA. The board will take action on the item at the March 17 board meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Ferris ISD Administration Building located at 301 E. 5th St.Red Oak ISD will use Friday, April 3 and Friday, May 22 to make up for the Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 weather closures. Ferris ISD will use Friday, April 3 and Friday, June 5.
