Texas AG’s office to present arguments during executive amnesty hearing Posted in Surrounding Areas on July 09, 2015 by Staff Report Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.AUSTIN — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton released the following statement in advance of tomorrow's oral arguments in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on President Obama’s unlawful immigration action:"The Obama Administration unilaterally rewrote the law, creating an amnesty program that will reward people who are here illegally with free government benefits. Any sweeping change in immigration policy must come from our elected leaders in Congress – not from one individual via executive action. The district court rightly stopped this program in its tracks, and we will continue fighting President Obama's disregard for the rule of law."This hearing follows the May 26 Fifth Circuit decision to deny the Obama Administration's request to begin implementing the President’s amnesty plan after the district court halted the program in a February 16 ruling. The Court tomorrow will hear arguments on whether to reverse the district court's injunction on executive amnesty. Texas Solicitor General Scott Keller will be arguing on behalf of the coalition of 26 plaintiff states in the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans.
