Little Sicily Italian Restaurant in Waxahachie sustained damage after an electrical fire early Sunday morning.WAXAHACHIE — Waxahachie Fire Department responded to a fire at Little Sicily Italian Restaurant located at 110 N. Hwy 77 in Waxahachie early Sunday morning."The call was originated at 8:18 a.m. with the first fire company arriving in approximately four minutes and all other companies on scene within six minutes," Waxahachie Fire Chief Ricky Boyd said.Units arrived on scene to find the kitchen of Little Sicily on fire. A fire investigation concluded the fire was electrical in nature and damages are estimated to be $200,000.Photo by Ellis County Citizen.Restaurant owner Phil Balsamo was hard at work Monday clearing out Little Sicily in preparation for reopening in a couple of weeks."The fire itself was contained to the kitchen. The rest of the building was damaged by smoke," Boyd said. "The men did an excellent job of keeping the fire in the area of origin with no extension into the remainder of the building."Boyd said firefighting operations took less than 30 minutes and approximately an hour was spent on salvage and overhaul operations.The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no firemen were injured during the operation.Restaurant owner Phil Balsamo said he was thankful that no one was injured.He was already hard at work Monday clearing out the entire building and said he plans on reopening in a couple of weeks.
