Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal shooting Posted in Ennis, Headline on August 23, 2016 by Staff Report Photo by Ellis County Sheriff's Office ENNIS — The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting stemming from an altercation between two former roommates.The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 20 in the 4100 block of Spur 469 in Ennis, where a 29-year-old man, identified as Eric Minter, was reported shot. Minter was transported to Ennis Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Jackie Miller Jr. ordered the body taken to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office, with preliminary autopsy results indicating that Minter died as a result of a single gunshot.No charges have been filed at this time as a claim of self-defense is being investigated. A weapon was recovered during execution of a search warrant.Additional information is not available pending the conclusion of the investigation.
