Help a disadvantaged WISD student with school supplies Posted in Waxahachie on July 28, 2015 by Staff Report WAXAHACHIE — The first day of school is just around the corner and some students are in need of school supplies. With your help these students can be prepared for another successful year in their academic journey. Time is running out; Operation First Day of School is August 8.Waxahachie ISD and volunteers are working feverishly on Operation First Day of School. This event assists Waxahachie ISD students by providing them with backpacks, school supplies and other back-to-school essentials that they are not able to afford.According to the Waxahachie ISD website, "With a student population just over 8,000, the district is continually on a quest for Excellence in Education. Although our students continue to do well both academically and in extra-curricular activities, more than half of our students are economically disadvantaged."Operation First Day of School will take place on Saturday, August 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy located at 275 Indian Dr. in Waxahachie.Parents who are seeking assistance for their children need to contact the Director of Public Relations for Waxahachie ISD at 972-923-4631 to determine eligibility. Supplies will be distributed on a first come first served basis.Residents and businesses who wish to help can do so a number of different ways.Collect school supplies at your workplace, church or local non-profit organization. The supplies must be dropped off at the Waxahachie ISD Administration Building no later than Friday, August 7. Supplies will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Click here for a list of general school supplies that are needed.You can also make a monetary donation. A donation of $40 can provide a backpack and school supplies for an elementary student; just $25 is needed to provide a backpack, binder and other supplies for junior high and high school students.Donations can be made online at http://www.gofundme.com/z95r4w, taken to the Waxahachie Administration Building Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or mailed. Donations collected will be used to purchase needed supplies for Waxahachie ISD students.The mailing address is 411 N. Gibson St, Waxahachie, TX 75165, attention Public Relations Department."Since 2009, Operation First Day of School has assisted more than 2,000 families and more than 6,500 children. Operation First Day of School will operate on a first come, first served basis.
