Ruth Sutton, principal of Finley Junior High in Waxahachie, announced her plans to retire at the end of the school year.WAXAHACHIE — Ruth Sutton, the current principal of Finley Junior High, has announced her plans to retire at the end of the school year.Mrs. Sutton, a Waxahachie native, began her teaching career in Waxahachie nearly 45 years ago, teaching mathematics, economics, and typing at T.C. Wilemon Junior High and Waxahachie High School.Mrs. Sutton began serving as an administrator for WISD in 2000, when she was named the assistant principal at Waxahachie Junior High. She was also the principal of Clift Middle School from 2005-2010, and assumed her current role as principal of Finley Junior High in 2010."We will greatly miss Mrs. Sutton's leadership and commitment to excellence in our district," said Dr. Jeremy Glenn, WISD superintendent. "We thank her for her years of service to WISD, and wish her all the best in her retirement."Under Mrs. Sutton's leadership, Turner/Clift Middle School was named a TEA Recognized campus for four years, and in 2010, it achieved Exemplary status. In 2008, Turner Middle School made the Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll, which only four percent of Texas schools receive.
