Arrest made in hit-and-run death of 53-year-old male

Stoney Jewell Ellis, 38, of Red Oak was arrested on Friday, August 19, 2016 on a charge of "Accident Involving Death". The arrest stems from a Sunday, August 7, 2016 accident where a hit-and-run victim later succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

RED OAK — On Sunday, August 7 at around 11:24 p.m., the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch (NEED) center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 2600 block of Ovilla road in reference to an accident involving a subject on a bicycle that had just occurred.

The caller advised that he had found a subject and a bicycle lying in the ditch and observed two vehicles stopped in the road just east of the accident and then they sped away.

Officers arrived on scene and found a 53-year-old male subject suffering from extensive injuries due to the collision. The victim was air lifted to Parkland hospital with life threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, August 16, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as Albert Isaiash Record of Glenn Heights.

Physical evidence left at the scene led to the identification of the suspect vehicle.

On Thursday, August 18, the Red Oak Criminal Investigations Division obtained a warrant of arrest for the suspect believed to be operating the suspect vehicle.

At 8:53 a.m. on Friday, the Red Oak Police Department Patrol Division located the suspect and placed Stoney Jewell Ellis, 38, of Red Oak under arrest for his alleged involvement in the offense of "Accident Involving Death". Ellis is currently being housed at the Red Oak City Jail and is awaiting arraignment on the offense.
