Off-duty Ferris police officer helped capture felony suspect in Dallas

DALLAS — At approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 an individual entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Driver License Office located at 11411 Northwest Highway in Dallas.

The man was attempting to renew a driver license when it was determined he had an outstanding felony warrant. When a state trooper attempted to arrest the suspect, he fled out of the office and entered a white BMW.

An off-duty Ferris police officer was in the area and came to the aid of the trooper. During the incident, the trooper and the officer discharged their firearms at the suspect. The suspect was struck and suffered non-life threatening injures. He was treated and released from the hospital and was taken into custody by law enforcement.

Another occupant in the BMW was uninjured, and it is unclear how or if that person is involved in the incident.

No additional information is being released by the Texas Department of Public Safety at this time. The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
