Ferris man arrested for deadly Red Oak hit and run

Chase Everett Crary, 44, of Ferris was placed under arrest on June 2, 2016 with charges of "Accident Involving Death" related to the May 22, 2016 hit and run accident that claimed the life of Betsy Sue McClelland, 47, of Red Oak.

RED OAK — On Thursday, June 2 at 9:09 p.m., the Red Oak Police Department Criminal Investigation Division placed Chase Everett Crary, 44, of Ferris under arrest for his alleged involvement in the offense of "Accident Involving Death" that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 22.

The hit and run fatality accident claimed the life of Betsy Sue McClelland, 47, of Red Oak in the 200 block of E. Ovilla Road (FM 664).

The incident involved a pedestrian and a truck. At the time of the collision, McClelland appears to be walking eastbound in the 200 block of E. Ovilla Road.

The driver of the involved vehicle fled the area without stopping to render aid to the injured party. McClelland sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and was transported to Baylor Hospital in Waxahachie for medical treatment. McClelland succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Red Oak Police Department Criminal Investigation Division received a tip from a local citizen that led to the identification of Crary. Crary has been transferred to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center with a $100,000 bond.

The Red Oak Police Department Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate and collect evidence regarding the offense.
