Red Oak woman killed by hit and run driver

RED OAK — At approximately 12:09 a.m. on Monday, May 23, the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a possible hit-and-run traffic collision in the 200 block of E. Ovilla Road (FM 664).

The Red Oak Police Department was dispatched to the scene of the collision at that time. The collision involved a pedestrian and a truck. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian appears to be walking eastbound in the 200 block of E. Ovilla Road.

The driver of the involved vehicle fled the area without stopping to render aid to the injured party. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and was transported to Baylor Hospital in Waxahachie for medical treatment.

The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Next of kin was notified. The pedestrian was identified as Betsy Sue McClelland, 47, of Red Oak.

Detectives have retrieved surveillance videos from several businesses in the area. One of the videos (shown below) shows a pickup truck in the upper right corner of the video that allegedly collided with the victim and pulled into the parking lot of a business. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene and turned right onto Sunflower out of the parking lot.
