ELLIS COUNTY — Constable Mike Jones for Precinct 4 and his chief deputy, Kenneth Singleton, are facing allegations related to the use of county property.

According to information obtained by Ellis County Citizen, Jones is facing a class A misdemeanor charge for abuse of official capacity and Singleton is facing a felony charge for tampering with physical evidence with the intent to impair.

Both men were indicted on May 11 and arrested Friday. They both posted bond and were released.

The indictment accuses Jones of using county property to operate and advertise his personal, for-profit business and campaign for office. Singleton is accused of intentionally or knowingly deleting emails with the intent to impair the investigation.

Jones posted a statement Monday to one of his Facebook pages stating he is innocent and apologized to his friends, family and constituents that his name and office are being drug through the mud.

He stated he would not be releasing any additional statements and would likely take a break from Facebook while he handles the accusations. Jones has since temporarily deleted the Facebook page.
