LETTER: For Floyd Bates, candidate for WISD school board

To the Editor:

Thank you Mr. Floyd Bates for your willingness to support teachers and students when they need you the most. Several years ago, I was one of those teachers. I will always remember that you were one of those board members who saw me as an individual and voted accordingly. I also remember receiving notes of apology from other board members hoping that I could understand that it was their "duty" to vote for administration. I never did understand. Instead, I have learned to treasure the following words of Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." Continue to be true in your role as a servant in the realm of education. I wish you the best of luck in the WISD school board election.

Sincerely,

Karen Navarro Jenkins
