Kidnapping victim found safe

Keidra Kirby, 17, was found safe on the morning of Sunday, April 24, 2016 after her alleged kidnapping on Saturday.

GLENN HEIGHTS — The Glenn Heights Police Department received a call Saturday evening just after 7 p.m. in reference to a kidnapping. Officers arrived to learn that 17-year-old Keidra Kirby was abducted by three males in what was described as a white van with tinted windows. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Star Gazer.

The investigators from the Glenn Heights Police Department and Texas Rangers worked throughout the night following up on investigative leads. Sunday morning, Kirby was able to contact her parents and provide her location, which was a residence in the 3800 block of Gannon Rd. in Dallas. Kirby was located by Glenn Heights detectives and the Texas Rangers.

According to Glenn Heights Police Sergeant David Jackson, from the base information that has been developed, the only ongoing investigation is into the kidnapping. This remains an active investigation and no other details are available at this time.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and the community should feel safe. The Glenn Heights Police Department always urges residents to report any activity they feel is suspicious.

"The main thing is that Kiedra has been located and is safe. That is heartwarming news for her family, the Glenn Heights community, the City, and for the Police Department," a press release from the Glenn Heights Police Department stated Sunday.

"Chief (Phillip) Prasifka thanked the staff for the tireless hours that have and continue to invest into this investigation. Chief Prasifka also thanked the Texas Rangers who continue to assist with the investigation and for the assistance of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
