Ennis Regional Medical Center to discontinue obstetrics services

ENNIS — Ennis Regional Medical Center announced Tuesday that, effective Thursday, February 18, 2016, it will discontinue obstetrics services.

"Our hospital has always taken pride in providing mothers and their newborns with quality medical and nursing care," Ennis Regional Medical Center CEO Alan Daugherty said. "However, recent challenges related to recruiting and retaining pediatricians who can cover our newborn nursery have led us to make the difficult decision to discontinue our obstetrics services."

To ensure that expectant mothers in Ennis and surrounding communities have access to quality care during labor and delivery, Ennis Regional Medical Center is collaborating with local obstetricians to transition their patients to other facilities in the region.

The hospital has a transition plan in place for employees impacted by this change. These staff members will be given priority consideration for vacant positions within Ennis Regional and at its sister facilities in Mexia and Palestine.

This change will not impact other core services provided by Ennis Regional Medical Center.

Ennis Regional Medical Center is a 60-bed acute care facility located in Ennis, Texas that exists to serve the City of Ennis and Ellis County in the provision of general acute care services. Ennis Regional Medical Center's vision is to be the best at delivering excellent quality care and exceptional service.
