Comfort Inn in Red Oak sustains fire damage

Red Oak Police and Fire Departments responded to a fire at Comfort Inn on Monday, October 19, 2015.

RED OAK — On Monday, October 19 at approximately 1:21 p.m., personnel from the Red Oak Fire Department and Red Oak Police Department were dispatched to the Comfort Inn located at 404 N. Interstate 35 East Service Road in reference to a fire alarm.

The Red Oak Fire Department arrived on scene and observed hotels guests evacuating the hotel with visible smoke coming from the building. The Red Oak Police Department closed direct access into the property and temporarily redirected northbound traffic from the N. IH-35E East Service Road onto IH-3E.

The Red Oak Fire Department entered the Comfort Inn and completed a search of the business and evacuated any remaining subjects from inside the business. A total of 35 rooms were occupied and all were evacuated.

It was determined that the fire was on the second story and appeared to be coming from a house keeping room. The internal fire sprinkler system had contained the fire to this room and the Red Oak Fire Department suppressed the remaining fire.

The structure has a large amount of smoke and water damage from the fire. No injuries were sustained by guests, employees or emergency personnel at the scene.
