WAXAHACHIE — The Gingerbread House children's advocacy center was among several beneficiaries of this year's "Be the Church" event organized by The Avenue Church. "Be the Church" encourages volunteers to become more involved in their community.

On Sept. 26 and 27, from 25 to 30 volunteers were at the center each day to complete a landscaping project. They also power-washed the outside benches and tables, the birdbath in the welcoming garden area and the exterior of the building. Part of the group also deep cleaned the interior of the building.

"We appreciate the work done by the volunteers from The Avenue Church very much," Executive Director John Wyckoff said. "We also want to thank The Greenery for their donation of several rose bushes for the landscaping project."
