Maypearl JHS to issue new schedules with addition of seventh period

MAYPEARL — Maypearl Junior High School students will be issued new class schedules on Monday, August 24 when they arrive for the first day of the 2015-2016 school year. The schedules issued on Wednesday and Thursday are no longer valid.

According to Maypearl JHS Principal Lesley Austin, the school experienced a 12 percent growth rate in student enrollment during the past two weeks thus creating the need to add a seventh period.

"In order to keep class sizes lower and give students more opportunities for elective choice, we are going from a six-period schedule to a seven-period schedule," Austin wrote in a letter dated August 22.

"We are doing this without changing the start and end times to the school day."

A school assembly will be held after students receive their new schedules.

"After the students receive their new schedule, we will have a school assembly starting at 7:50 a.m. to review the new seven-period schedule," Austin said.

Additionally, the school is opening up a one week period for schedule changes. August 28 will be the final day to submit change requests and all change requests must be submitted through email or writing by a parent or guardian.

"If after reviewing the new schedule with your student you would like to requeset a schedule change, please email laustin@maypearlisd.org or lfarda@maypearlisd.org or send a written request to the office," Austin said.
