Cameron Wagner receives Texas Armed Services Scholarship

RED OAK — After an extensive review by a nominating panel, State Representative John Wray awarded the Texas Armed Services Scholarship to Cameron Wagner of Red Oak, Texas. Cameron, a junior at Texas A&M University and Air Force ROTC cadet, stood out among the applicants for his academic excellence and community service.

Cameron wrote in his application, "If not me, then who? If I am not willing to risk my life to protect the people and the country that I love, then who will? God has given me extraordinary gifts and talents, and I see no better use for them than to fight for our nation."

"Cameron's unwavering commitment to service and his discipline in the classroom are indisputable and why our panel is so pleased to award him this scholarship. We are honored to know such an ambitious and principled young man and look forward to the wonderful things he will achieve," Wray said.

This year's scholarship panel included House District 10 residents Dan Batte, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and Jake Ellzey, a retired Navy Commodore who currently serves on the Texas Veterans Commission.

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship program awards $10,000 a year to deserving students that serve in the ROTC program at their school. Each year the Governor and Lieutenant Governor may each appoint two students, and each State Senator and State Representative may appoint one student to receive an initial conditional scholarship.
