Ovilla homeowner shoots neighbor breaking into home

Ovilla resident Trenton Eugene Sinyard was arrested and charged Tuesday, June 2, 2015 with burglary of a habitation. His bond was set at $300,000.

OVILLA — Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched Tuesday, June 2, to an incident involving a homeowner who had shot and injured a man she believed was breaking in her back door at about 1 p.m. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Saint Andrews Drive just outside of Ovilla.

The suspect knocked on the front door and, when no one answered, then went around to the back door and started trying to knock the back door in. As he was making entry, the homeowner started shooting.

Deputies found the suspect hiding in the attic at his residence next door to the crime scene. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. Deputies placed the suspect into custody and transported him to Wayne McCollum Detention Center.

The suspect, identified as Trenton Eugene Sinyard, 33, of Ovilla has since been arraigned on a charge of burglary of a habitation with a bond set at $300,000.

As of press time Wednesday night, Sinyard was still in jail.
