Ellis County residents capture Tuesday’s funnel cloud on video

Midlothian resident Cole Sellers captured this photo of a funnel cloud off in the distance Tuesday afternoon while driving between Waxahachie and Ennis.

ELLIS COUNTY — Ellis County residents shared numerous photos and videos of at least one funnel cloud traveling between Waxahachie and Palmer Tuesday afternoon.

Roof damage on Omaha Court in Waxahachie after a tornado warned storm passed through Ellis County Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a tornado warning for northeastern Ellis County at 3:09 p.m. after rotation appeared on radar. The storm produced heavy rains and some hail has it headed northeast at 25 mph. The warning expired at 3:45 p.m. after producing at least one confirmed funnel cloud.

The warning came as some students were dismissed from Waxahachie High School. Witnesses confirmed with Ellis County Citizen that students were ushered back into the school as well as parents who were waiting to pick up their children. Some schools in the county also delayed busses until heavy rains subsided.

Ellis County Emergency Services Coordinator Stephanie Parker stated no injuries have been reported as of press time. Parker confirmed at least one home on Omaha Court sustained roof damage and a shed off of Pigg Road was damaged because of the severe storms.
