Tornado confirmed during Friday’s storms

Storms Friday evening brought torrential rain, hail and an EF-0 tornado just southeast of Midlothian. Kimberly Way-Dostillio provided this photo of large hail that accompanied the storm as it rolled through Midlothian.

MIDLOTHIAN — The National Weather Service in Fort Worth confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Ellis County during Friday night's storms.

The weak tornado was located three miles south / southeast of Midlothian and traveled less than one mile. Estimated peak winds were 80 mph.

"While the confirmed tornado produced EF-0 damage, the bulk of the damage from the storms last evening were from straight line winds," the National Weather Service in Fort Worth stated.

"The EF-0 tornado was a small part of a much larger swath of damaging winds to the south of the City of Midlothian.

According to the coordinates provided by the National Weather Service, the location of the tornado would have been near Plainview Rd just southeast of LaRue Miller Elementary School. The tornado traveled east 0.87 miles.
