Vehicle burglary victim shoots suspect in Red Oak

James Earl of Jeter of Waxahachie is recovering after a burlgary victim shot Jeter in the leg during an alleged vehicle burglary in Red Oak.

RED OAK — On March 28th at approximately 12:35 p.m., officers of the Red Oak Police Department responded to Ray’s Barbershop located at 642 N. IH-35E service road in Red Oak for a burglary of a vehicle in progress.

The reporting person advised that a white male subject had just attempted to burglarize his vehicle outside of his business as another white male subject was waiting in a gold Honda Accord four door.

The caller confronted the subject as he ran back towards the Honda Accord and this subject made physical contact with the victim. The victim produced a handgun and ordered the subjects to freeze.

The passenger subject then started to close the door as the other subject started to drive away. The passenger door struck the victim’s arm causing the victim to discharge a round, striking the suspect in the right calf. Both suspects then fled the scene northbound on IH-35E. The victim was not injured during the altercation.

Shortly thereafter, the Lancaster Police Department advised that a white male subject had arrived at Crescent Medical Center located at 2600 W Pleasant Run Rd in Lancaster.

Red Oak Police Personnel arrived on scene at Crescent Medical Center and observed that the injured male subject had a gun shot injury consistent with what had been described at the scene. The suspect’s condition was listed as stable and he was subsequently transported to Parkland Hospital for additional medical treatment.

After additional investigation, Red Oak Police Detectives took a 33-year-old white male, identified as James Earl Jeter of Waxahachie, into custody for the offense of Burglary of a Vehicle.

Jeter will be transported back to the Red Oak City Jail upon the completion of his medical treatment. The investigation into the identity of the driver of the Honda Accord is ongoing.
