Murderer of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield found guilty

STEPHENVILLE — An Erath County jury in Stephenville, Texas found Eddie Ray Routh guilty of capital murder for the murders of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. District Judge Jason C. Cason read the jury's verdict at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

It took the jury less than three hours to reach their verdict.

Routh, 27, was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors chose not to seek the death penalty.

"We just want to say that we've waited two years for God to get justice for us on behalf of our son and as always God has proved to be faithful, and we're so thrilled that we have the verdict that we have tonight," Littlefield's mother, Judy Littlefield, told reporters outside the courthouse.

Routh, 27, was on trial for the Feb. 2, 2013 murders of Kyle, 38, and Chad Littlefield, 35. Routh's attorneys focused their defense on mental insanity, which prosecutors staunchly disputed.
