Rep. John Wray files bill to name highway Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield Highway

AUSTIN — State Representative John Wray, R-Waxahachie, filed a bill in the Texas House to name a segment of U.S. Highway 287 in Midlothian after Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield.

The proposed name in HB 1187 filed on Feb. 5 is "Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield Highway."

Wray's proposed bill reads in part, "Sec. 225.102. CHRIS KYLE AND CHAD LITTLEFIELD HIGHWAY. (a) Notwithstanding Section 225.001(c), the portion of U.S. Highway 287 in Midlothian between its intersection with Rex Odom Drive and its intersection with Kimble Road is designated as the Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield Highway. The designation is in addition to any other designation."

Precinct 3 Ellis County Commissioner Paul Perry, whose precinct includes portions of Midlothian, supports naming a road after Kyle and Littlefield.

"It is important that we remember both Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield who were trying to help a veteran when they perished," Perry said after signing a petition supporting the effort.

A petition circulating online, entitled "Name a portion of road in Texas after American Heroes," has obtained over 2,500 signatures with nearly the same amount needed as of the date of this publication.
