WAXAHACHIE — Several Texas and Washington media outlets have reported that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Jon Kitna, 42, has resigned as head coach of Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington to take the head coaching position at Waxahachie High School.

Although Kitna's hiring is unofficial at press time, the Board of Trustees of Waxahachie Independent School District have called a 6 p.m. meeting on Jan. 22 to consider and take possible action to name a head football coach. The public meeting will take place at the Waxahachie ISD Administration Building located at 411 N. Gibson St, Waxahachie, TX 75165.

After playing 16 years in the NFL, he retired in Jan. 2012 to become the head coach and a math teacher at his alma mater, Lincoln High School.

Many readers will remember national headlines when the Dallas Cowboys called Kitna out of retirement to back up Kyle Orton whom took the place of injured quarterback Tony Romo on Dec. 24, 2013 for one game.

He donated his salary of $55,294 to the Lincoln High School Booster Club.

Reports speculate Kitna will bring a number of his assistant coaches to bolster the coaching staff.
